Effective date: August 6, 2026

Love Local Always (“Love Local Always,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates lovelocalalways.ca and the Love Local Always business directory (the “Site”), connecting shoppers with local businesses across British Columbia. We are committed to protecting the privacy of everyone who uses the Site — shoppers, business owners, and visitors alike — in accordance with the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and, where applicable, British Columbia’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).

This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, how we use and disclose it, and the rights you have over your own information. By using the Site, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

1. Who We Are

Love Local Always is operated in British Columbia, Canada. If you have any questions about this policy or how your personal information is handled, you can reach our privacy contact:

2. What Personal Information We Collect

The personal information we collect depends on how you interact with the Site.

Shoppers and site visitors

  • Contact form submissions: your name, email address, phone number (if provided), and the content of your message.
  • Automatically collected data: IP address, browser type, device type, pages visited, and referring website, collected through standard server logs and analytics tools to help us understand how the Site is used and to keep it secure.
  • Cookies: small files stored on your device to remember preferences and support site functionality (see Section 6, Cookies, below).

Business owners and listers

  • Account information: name, email address, password, and business role, used to create and manage your Add Listing dashboard account.
  • Business listing details: business name, description, address, service area, phone number, email, website, social media links, business hours, photos and logo, and category/location tags — all of which you choose to make public as part of your directory listing.
  • Billing information: for paid listing tiers (Enhanced or Amplified), payment details are collected and processed securely by our third-party payment processor. We do not store full credit card numbers on our own servers.

3. Why We Collect Your Information

Consistent with the accountability and purpose-identification principles under PIPEDA, we only collect personal information for identified, reasonable purposes, including to:

  • Create, publish, and manage business listings on the directory;
  • Respond to enquiries submitted through our contact form;
  • Process payments for paid listing tiers;
  • Operate, maintain, and improve the Site, including troubleshooting and security monitoring;
  • Communicate with business owners about their account or listing (e.g. renewal reminders, support requests);
  • Comply with legal obligations.

We do not use your personal information for any purpose beyond what it was collected for without first obtaining your consent, except where permitted or required by law.

4. Consent

By submitting a form, creating a listing account, or otherwise voluntarily providing personal information to us, you consent to its collection, use, and disclosure as described in this policy. Where required by PIPA or PIPEDA, we will seek express consent for any new or unrelated purpose. You may withdraw your consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual restrictions, by contacting us using the details in Section 1. Note that withdrawing consent for information required to operate your business listing (e.g. contact details on a published listing) may mean we are no longer able to keep that listing active.

5. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We disclose personal information only in the following circumstances:

  • Public listing content: information you choose to include in your business listing (name, address, contact details, description, photos) is displayed publicly on the Site by design.
  • Service providers: we share information with trusted third parties who help us operate the Site, such as our website hosting provider and payment processor, solely for the purpose of providing those services and under obligations to protect your information.
  • Legal requirements: we may disclose personal information if required to do so by law, regulation, or valid legal process.
  • Business transfers: if Love Local Always is ever involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this policy or a comparable one.

6. Cookies and Similar Technologies

The Site uses cookies and similar technologies to remember your preferences, understand how visitors use the Site, and support core functionality such as search filters and listing dashboards. Most web browsers let you refuse or delete cookies through their settings. If you disable cookies, some parts of the Site (such as the listing dashboard) may not function properly.

7. Data Retention

We retain personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes described in this policy, or as required by law. Business listing information is retained for as long as your listing remains active, plus a reasonable period afterward in case of renewal or dispute. Contact form submissions are retained only as long as needed to respond to and resolve your enquiry.

8. Security Safeguards

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information to protect personal information against loss, theft, and unauthorized access, disclosure, copying, use, or modification. This includes secure hosting, restricted access to account and billing data, and encrypted transmission of payment information by our payment processor. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Your Rights & How to Access or Correct Your Information

Under PIPEDA and PIPA, you have the right to:

  • Ask what personal information we hold about you and how it is used or disclosed;
  • Request access to your personal information;
  • Request that inaccurate or incomplete information be corrected;
  • Withdraw consent to the collection, use, or disclosure of your information, subject to legal or contractual limits;
  • Ask us to delete personal information we no longer need to retain.

Business owners can update most listing and account information directly from their Add Listing dashboard at any time. For any other request, contact us using the details in Section 1 and we will respond within a reasonable time frame, consistent with our obligations under applicable law.

10. Children’s Privacy

The Site is intended for business owners and adult shoppers and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.
